A 32-year-old man from Lancaster is suspected of mail theft in Moorpark and other Ventura County areas, according to authorities.
On June 26, Ventura County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to calls of two community postal mailboxes being vandalized and the contents inside stolen, according to a sheriff's office news release. Several other mailboxes in the city "had been accessed" and mail along with packages stolen after that incident.
Detectives with the sheriff's office worked with United States Postal Service to investigate the case and used law enforcement databases and other tools to identify a vehicle tied to the mail thefts with the Lancaster man, officials said.
On Aug. 21, the 32-year-old was located in Lancaster and a search warrant
of his home was executed, the sheriff's office said. Stolen mail from residents in Moorpark and other parts of Ventura County were found and recovered during the search, as well as evidence connecting the man to the June 26 incident.
The Lancaster man is being held in Ventura County jail for felony offenses of receiving stolen property and identity theft with a bail set at $50,000, jail records show. He has a Ventura County Superior Court hearing scheduled on Aug. 31.
