An auto accident put Olympic gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall's outdoor track season put on hold, just days before her biggest competition of the year.The former Agoura High track and field star was headed to practice last week when her vehicle was struck, head-on, by another car that was pulling out of a parking lot. The other car appeared to suddenly veer into her lane before the crash, according to dash cam footage.
The 27-year-old long jumper and hurdler said she suffered a concussion in the accident.“At this point I’m working with my team and doctors to get healthy, but I’m unsure if I will be ready to compete at Ultimate Championships next week,” Davis-Woodhall wrote in a Sept. 2 Instagram post. “More updates to come.”
Other slides in Davis-Woodhall’s social media showed bruising and lacerations on her right arm from the accident. Davis-Woodhall was set to be one of the marquee competitors at the debut of the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Sept. 11-13, meant to function as the de facto global championship event between the Olympics and World Championships. The competition will feature 26 Olympic champions from Paris 2024, 26 world champions from the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, 25 winners of the World Athletics Diamond League circuit in the 2026 season, and more. Davis-Woodhall, the two-time world champion and reigning Olympic gold medalist in the long jump, is the No. 1-ranked jumper in the world this year, according to World Athletics. She placed third at the U.S. Championships this season after a controversial appeal overturned what would have been her fifth national title. This is a developing story. Follow for updates.
