Camarillo residents experiencing homelessness and working toward permanent housing have a new place to turn.
The Barry Street short-term housing community at 2361 Barry St. on city-owned land features six single-occupancy housing units, according to a news release. Residents are expected to stay six to eight months.
The project, developed in partnership with Project Hope, Camarillo's primary homelessness outreach organization, will provide residents with case management, supportive services and individualized help aimed at achieving long-term housing stability, officials said.
A Sept. 2 ceremony featured Mayor David Tennessen and guided tours of housing units.

Residents will not pay rent, said Camarillo spokesperson Michelle D'Anna in an email.
The project is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program, city officials said.
