Edison leaves customers in dark
Year after year, Simi Valley and Ventura County experiences high wind conditions. And, year after year, Southern California Edison’s only response to these knowable and eminently predictable events is to leave its customers in the dark.
There is never any investment in weather-proofing their equipment to withstand the windy conditions. There is never any effort to bury the lines so as to avoid there being an issue pertaining to their own inadequate equipment. There is only bonuses to their executives and payouts to their shareholders, while they create unsafe traffic conditions with streetlights that don’t work, and businesses suffer financial losses, and food in our refrigerators rot.
The inadequacy of their equipment coupled with their cavalier
approach to providing consistent service to Edison’s customers and their refusal to make any changes to the unacceptable status quo reveals the true colors of SoCal Edison. But then, we already knew that from the Thomas, Woolsey and Eaton catastrophes.
How long will we remain content with living under the thumb of a utility whose only answer to protect us from its own incompetence is to penalize its customers?

Re-elect Dr. Martinez-Bravo
As a United States Navy veteran, lifelong Republican, and mother of a child with Down syndrome, I value perseverance, integrity, honesty, courage, service, and hard work. My friend, Camarillo Vice Mayor Dr. Martha Martinez-Bravo, exemplifies these qualities, which is why I proudly support her re-election to the Camarillo City Council.
Dr. Martinez-Bravo is a registered Democrat, but our political differences have never prevented us from working together for our children and community. At a time of deep political division, she has repeatedly demonstrated the value of setting partisanship aside and focusing on local needs. She has helped advance safer streets near Village at the Park, Pitts Ranch Park, and Camarillo High School by collaborating with law enforcement, city staff, school representatives, and residents.
Near Village at the Park and Pitts Ranch Park, residents can see the results in new crosswalks and pedestrian beacons that benefit families, seniors, and people of all ages.
At Camarillo High School, she worked with residents and city and school staff to improve traffic safety for students and the surrounding community.
Dr. Martinez-Bravo also founded KidSTREAM Children’s Museum and has served our schools through local PTAs and PTSAs. She invited me to serve alongside her at Las Colinas PTSA and in AAUW’s Women in History program at La Mariposa School. She is passionate about serving every child and ensuring that people with disabilities, including children like my son, are included and valued.
Dr. Martinez-Bravo is intelligent, kind, honest, data-driven, and committed to public service, not personal or financial gain. She brings people together and works tirelessly to improve our community and quality of life.
I will be voting for Dr. Martha Martinez-Bravo and fully support her re-election to the Camarillo City Council. I hope you will join me.
Flavia Seawright, Camarillo
Re-elect Torres to Rio board
Eleanor Torres stood up for the education and well-being of our students well before placing her name as a candidate for the Rio School District Board of Trustees. I supported her because the school district at the time was distracted beyond the limits of supporting the education of students and community.
It was difficult to refocus the administration at the time on students: she took on the task and was an integral part in righting the ship. Because of Trustee Torres’ leadership, the Rio School District has progressed far beyond its perceived limits.
Eleanor Torres will continue to set high standards for our children. She will also continue to ensure accountability, transparency and financial oversight to better serve future generations.
I, as a retired teacher of the Rio School District and Trustee of the Oxnard School District have been in awe of this progressive community activist. I ask for all to vote for Eleanor Torres to be re-elected for the Rio School District Board of Trustees.
