A bomb squad responded to Oxnard Oct. 18 after a man was believed to have "improvised destructive devices."
The Oxnard Police Department was initially called to the 3100 block of Saviers Road around 6:10 p.m. for a suspicious person, the department said in a news release. Officers found a 42-year-old Oxnard man in his car who had a warrant for his arrest.
Officers arrested the man and searched his vehicle. That's when officers said they found the devices and materials used to make more, police said.
Officers evacuated the area, including nearby businesses, and called the Ventura County Sheriff's Bomb Squad. The bomb squad made the devices safe and businesses were allowed to resume operation.
Oxnard police said they did not believe there was any
additional threat to the public.
The man has a felony warrant for possession of a hard drug, according to Ventura County Superior Court records. The warrant was issued in June when he failed to appear for an arraignment.
Oxnard police said the man was also arrested on suspicion of felonies for possession of materials with the intent to manufacture a destructive device and possession of a destructive device as well as related misdemeanors.
As of 3 p.m. the man was still in Oxnard police custody and had not been booked into Ventura County jail. Cmdr. Tom Rawlings said the man was expected to be booked into jail.
Anyone with information about the arrest is asked to call the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-7600.
