Three Buena High School students were arrested after allegedly posting threatening videos on social media, according to the Ventura Police Department.
The department states there is no credible threat to the community.
On the evening of Sept. 14, officers received reports of videos depicting Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat character making threats toward Buena High School and its students, according to a Sept. 15 Ventura Police Department news release. The videos, the department stated, appeared to be part of a nationwide social media trend, often involving AI.
During their investigation, detectives as well as school resource officers ultimately identified three Buena High School students as the suspects in creating and disseminating the videos, according
to the department.
Two 15-year-olds and one 14-year-old were arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and conspiring to commit a crime, the news release states. Two of the teens were also arrested on suspicion of destruction of evidence, according to the department.
