All lanes of southbound Highway 101 are closed in the Montecito area after a three-vehicle crash early Sept. 24.
The California Highway Patrol advised drivers to avoid the area if possible.
The crash happened north of Sheffield Drive around 1:40 a.m., according to a CHP news release sent shortly before 8 a.m.
A semi-truck in the No. 2 lane veered into another semi-truck in the No. 1 lane that then hit the center divider, the CHP said. A third vehicle rear-ended the truck in the No. 2 lane and traveled into the guardrail on the right shoulder.
About 60 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the highway, CHP officials said.
The crash, investigation, vehicle removal and cleanup has closed Highway 101. The CHP was unsure how long the lanes would be closed,
and traffic was being detoured off the highway at San Ysidro Road.
