An Amtrak train struck a vehicle stuck on the tracks in an industrial area of Ventura Aug. 26.
Officers with the Ventura Police Department responded to the train tracks just south of Ortega Street shortly before 8 p.m. after receiving a call that a train had struck a vehicle, said Sgt. Tank Sears.
The tracks run parallel to Ortega, adjacent to agricultural fields. The area has no legal or pubblic traffic crossing.
Police found a man standing near the vehicle that had been struck, Sears said. The man told police that his car had gotten stuck on the tracks when he took a dirt road to access his business nearby.
Amtrak train 6905 had just departed the Ventura station and was bound for San Diego when it was unable to stop in time and crashed into the unoccupied
vehicle, the sergeant said.
A message left with Amtrak was not immediately returned.
No injuries were reported from the crash.
