Residents at a homeless shelter and supportive housing complex in downtown Oxnard had to evacuate Sept. 17 after a structure fire, according to authorities.
Around 1:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a blaze in a second-floor unit of Case de Carmen at 241 W. 2nd Street, Deputy City Manager Katie Casey said.
The building's sprinkler system contained the fire to the original unit, and firefighters were able to safely evacuate the area and extinguish the fire, Casey said. There were no reported injuries and the Oxnard Fire Department is investigating the cause of the incident, Casey said.
The $46.3 million building opened in April and contains 110 emergency beds on the first floor and 56 apartments on the upper four floors, according to previous
reporting.
