A Ventura woman was arrested on Sept. 16 for allegedly attacking and robbing a person at Motel 6 days earlier.
Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office responded to the motel at 3075 Johnson Drive around 2 a.m. on Sept. 14 after receiving a report about a person being seriously injured in an attack, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Although the motel falls under Ventura Police Department jurisdiction, sheriff’s deputies took over the crime scene based on the nature of the incident and information found in the investigation, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies at the motel found that the person had been severely beaten and lost consciousness during the attack, the sheriff’s office said. The person’s belongings were also stolen.
Investigators were able to identify a possible suspect as a 41-year-old homeless Ventura woman who frequented the area and the nearby river bottom, sheriff’s officials said.
With help from the sheriff’s office’s homeless liaison unit, which has established relationships with the people living in the river bottom and familiarity with the area, detectives found a lead on the woman's whereabouts, sheriff’s officials said.
Investigators located the woman and arrested her without incident on suspicion of felonies for first-degree robbery, battery with serious bodily injury and criminal threats, the sheriff's office said.
She was booked into Ventura County jail with bail set at $100,000, jail records show. She was scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on Sept. 18.
