A recall has been issued for pork products potentially contaminated with listeria monocytogenes and distributed across several states, including Michigan.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on Sunday, Sept. 6, a recallof imported ready-to-eat pork products from Prime Line Distributors Inc., of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Ferrarini USA Inc., based in New Jersey.
More than 1,500 pounds of pork guanciale (pork jowl) products produced in Italy at Est. 1937L Bome SRL in Italy on May 21, 2026, and imported to the U.S. on various July dates are subject to the recall.
This recall falls into the Class I - high or medium risk and a “health hazard” classification by the USDA. It means there is a risk that using the product can cause serious
health issues. Listeria can cause serious and fatal infections in children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
During a routine import reinspection sample testing, a product was confirmed positive for listeria monocytogenes, the recall says.

While Prime Line Distributors shipped items to food service and retail locations in Florida, Ferrarini USA pork products went to distributors and food service locations in California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Texas.
According to the recall, the concern is that products may be in food service, retail and consumer refrigerators. The USDA says consumers who have any of the products should not consume them. They should toss them out or return them to the store of purchase. The USDA is urging food service and retail locations not to serve or sell the recalled products. They should toss them out or return them to the place of purchase.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products, the USDA says, but those concerned or who have symptoms should contact a healthcare provider.
