It's time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Girls Athlete of the Week.
This week's poll includes four athletes who had standout performances during the week of Oct. 5-11.
Voting will close at noon on Friday,
Oct. 16.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Ella Arvai, Saline, field hockey
Saline recorded back-to-back shutout wins over East Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor Huron last week. The junior midfielder scored four goals and had two assists across both games.
Gabriella Mercier, Macomb Dakota, cross country
Mercier claimed the MAC Red Championship individual 5K title on Tuesday, Oct. 6, posting a time of 18:23.86. The victory marked her third first-place finish of the season.
Mia Mracna, Berkley, swimming
The senior swimmer dominated in multiple races for Berkley in meets against Birmingham Detroit Country Day and Rochester Adams. On Tuesday, Mracna took first place in the 100m fly race with a time of 1:00.52. Two days later, she earned four first-place victories, including a season best in the 100m butterfly with time of 59.06 and qualified for the Division 2 state finals in November. She also won the 200m individual medley, the 200m freestyle as the anchor and the 200m breaststroke.
Ariana Rekic, Sterling Heights, volleyball
Senior setter Rekic led Sterling Heights to victories over Eastpointe and Center Line while etching her name into the school record book. She recorded a school-record 35 service points in a sweep of Center Line and finished the week with 48 service points, 34 assists, 16 aces, 12 digs and five kills.
