A 70-year-old man who had been missing in Isle Royale National Park for days was found alive and alert by backpackers on the island, according to the National Park Service.
Craig Berg, of Royal Oak, had been unaccounted for since Sept. 5 after he missed his scheduled ferry ride home from a solo hiking trip
, his wife, Debbie Berg, told the Free Press earlier this week. On Saturday, Sept. 12, Isle Royal National Park posted on Facebook that he was found.
Search operations, which included repeated foot patrols, aviation overflights, and drone use, were ongoing as of Friday, according to a post by the park.
Craig Berg arrived at the island on Aug. 27 for a solo hike on the Greenstone Trail. Debbie Berg said previously that search teams were concentrating
on looking for him there.
Search efforts included the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State Police Special Operations Division and Keweenaw County Deputies, U.S. Coast Guard Station Portage, Michigan, No One Left Behind Canine Search and Rescue, Wisconsin, and Minnesota State Patrol Aviation Resources, according to Isle Royal National Park.
Additional information will take time to investigate and share, according to the Saturday Facebook post by Isle Royale National Park.
