Puff, puff, give – to the NFL, it seems.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown said Thursday, Sept. 24, he was fined four times for four different touchdown and catch celebrations he performed when he mimicked smoking in last week's loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Asked Thursday if he heard from the NFL about the celebrations, St. Brown shook his head and said quietly, "Yeah, I have."
“It’s not good, man," he said. "Fourteen-something times four. You do the math. But I’m appealing,"
St. Brown was fined for making a smoking gesture after his first catch of the game with 6:17 left in the second quarter and again after three catches in the third quarter.
When he caught
his first touchdown of the game, with 9:29 left in the third quarter on a 2-yard pass from Jared Goff, he mimicked a smoking gesture than passed the imaginary cigarette to Jahmyr Gibbs, who pretended to take a hit before passing it to Jameson Williams.
It's unclear if Gibbs and Williams also were fined.
Gibbs was fined $23,027 in Week 1 for use of his helmet when he lowered his head into a defender on a touchdown run.
The NFL fine schedule lists one $14,000 fine, a penalty of $14,926 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
At that rate, the four fines would cost St. Brown $59,704.

Safety Thomas Harper missed his second straight practice with an ankle injury and guard Ben Bartch did not practice because of a foot injury Thursday, but defensive tackle Alim McNeill returned after a one-day absence for personal reasons.
