Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene continues to make progress in his injury rehab, though the team hasn't set a timetable for his return.
Greene took batting practice, performed running drills and threw on the field at Comerica Park on Tuesday, Aug. 25, as he recovers from a strained hamstring suffered during a 6-4 win over the Cleveland Guardians
on Aug. 11. The Tigers put him on the 10-day injured list the next day and have been without him since.Though Greene didn't show any discomfort during his workout and said he felt good, he added that he didn't know when he would return.
"[We'll] see how the body reacts to the stuff we're doing, and we'll go from there,"
he said. "If I could, I'd want to play tonight. But you just gotta not rush it. You got, what, a month and a couple days of baseball left of the regular season? Just want to finish strong and help the team any way I can."
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch, who observed Greene's pregame batting practice, called his workout "a positive step."
"Just one step forward. I don't know what it means yet," he said. "I was pleased with his work today. [It] was as close to full-speed as he has been to date, so that's encouraging."
Like Greene, Hinch didn't offer a timeline for Greene's return or a target date for a minor league rehab assignment.
Greene has been one of the team's most consistent hitters this season, putting up an .816 OPS over 492 plate appearances while earning his third straight All-Star nod. The slugger's absence has coincided with one of the Tigers' worst stretches of the year, with Detroit going 2-10 (entering Tuesday) since Greene was placed on the IL.
The Tigers' .353 slugging percentage since Greene's injury is 26th in MLB over that span and 53 points lower than their mark before the injury (.408, 10th-best in MLB). Greene led the team in home runs (36) and RBIs (111) in 2025, though both marks this season belong to All-Star catcher Dillon Dingler (26 HR, 82 RBIs).
Keider Montero, Jack Flaherty updates

Hinch said that right-hander Keider Montero will pitch on Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his first start since Aug. 18. The Tigers are giving the righty extra rest following a five-inning start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, essentially skipping a start for Montero before he faces one of MLB's top teams.
"We're trying to be smart with pushing these guys when we need to push them but also pull back when we need to pull back. And coming out of last outing, we're just going to try to be smart with Keider," Hinch said on Aug. 21, when Montero's extra days of rest were originally announced.
No Dodgers starters have officially been named for the series, but it is expected that former Tigers ace Tarik Skubal will take the mound on Friday, the first game of the series. Skubal was originally set to pitch Saturday before the Dodgers made a switch in their rotation.
One former Dodger who won't be pitching in the series is righty Jack Flaherty, who was placed on the 15-day IL with right flexor inflammation on July 21 and continues to recover. Hinch said that Flaherty will throw off the mound on Wednesday, but didn't give a target date for a rehab start.
Flaherty has a 4.59 ERA over 86⅓ innings so far in 2026, but had pitched better since the beginning of June, with a 2.67 ERA over 33⅔ innings. He is in the second year of a two-year contract with the Tigers, making $20 million in 2026.
James Outman headed to Toledo
Tigers outfielder James Outman, who was designated for assignment on Sunday, cleared waivers on Tuesday and will report to Triple-A Toledo.
The Tigers initially claimed Outman off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on June 11, looking for depth with several outfielders on the injured list. Outman slashed .183/.240/.366 over 100 plate appearances for the Tigers but provided strong defense in center field and a few big hits. He has been out since Aug. 12 after suffering a concussion in a game against the Guardians.
