A Detroit police officer was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after accidentally discharging his gun in the locker room Saturday morning, Sept. 5, according to the Detroit Police Department.
At approximately 5 a.m. Saturday, an officer assigned to the 10th Precinct was handling his weapon in the precinct locker room when the firearm discharged and struck him in the foot, according to a statement from DPD.
DPD will launch an internal investigation into the incident in accordance with department policy regarding the discharge of a firearm, according to the statement.
Saturday's incident is at least the third time a DPD officer has accidentally injured himself with a firearm since December 2025, when an officer from the 6th
Precinct struck himself in the foot while trying to shoot a dog. In April, an officer accidentally shot himself in the bathroom of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in downtown Detroit.
