German American psychedelic painter Peter Max died Sept. 14 at 88 years old.
Peter MaxMax, who was living with dementia for at least a decade, died in a hospital on Sept. 14, his son Adam Max told The New York Times and The Associated Press on Sept. 16. A cause of death was not provided.
He is survived by his children Adam and Libra Max, whom he shared with his first wife, Elizabeth Nance.

Who was Peter Max?
Born Peter Max Finkelstein in Berlin, he was a renowned German-American psychedelic artist who rose to fame in the 1960s along with
the era's flower power movement. His work appeared on an airplane, a cruise ship, postage stamps, and promotional materials for the Super Bowl, the World Cup, MTV's 1980s logo, the Manhattan Yellow Pages, and the Grammy Awards.
His family moved to Shanghai in 1938, before resettling in the U.S. in 1953, in New York City, his biography notes. Max studied at New York City's Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts and in 1962, opened an art studio in Manhattan with his friend Tom Daly.
He is survived by children Adam and Libra Max, whom he shared with his first wife, Elizabeth Nance.
