Alex DeBrincat has said all along he wants to remain with the Detroit Red Wings, and that appears to be close to a done deal.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said late on Tuesday, Oct. 13, on social media
that "word is" the the Red Wings and DeBrincat are closing in on a deal that's worth approximately $13 million per season over seven years.
An extension has been expected, as DeBrincat is in the last year of his deal. A 40-goal scorer, he stands to become the highest paid player on the team, blowing by previous clubhouse leader Dylan Larkin's $8.7 million annual average value.
The 28-year-old from Farmington Hills scored twice and also had an assist in the Wings' 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.
DeBrincat has four goals and four assists for a team leading eight points after six games.
Despite Detroit’s tough 5-4 overtime loss to New Jersey, there appears to be an important off-ice victory for the Red Wings.
