An hourslong police standoff in Calumet in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Tuesday, Sept. 15, ended with a man being arrested after officers say he locked himself in his garage, pointed a gun at them and refused commands, according to the Houghton County Sheriff's Office.
Police say the man exited his house, where officers were dispatched at approximately 4:45 a.m. Tuesday after reports of a fire, and threw large knives at Michigan State Police officers before retreating into his residence.
Officers say upon arrival, nails were intentionally scattered across the road.
The man, according to police, also pointed a firearm at a deputy officer after the department obtained
a search warrant and entered the house, located at 25319 W. Pine St.
He was taken into police custody without incident a short time later.
Calumet is approximately 112 miles north of Marquette.
Although officials declined to say how long the standoff lasted when asked by the Free Press on Tuesday, WBUP in Ishpeming said their reporters saw police in the area around 8 a.m.
