The Detroit Tigers' stadium may be getting a new name.
The Tigers and Fifth Third Bancorp are holding an on-field press conference at the stadium on Monday, Sept. 21. Fifth Third acquired Comerica Bank in a $12.3 billion merger in February, and today's announcement will likely reveal a new name for the 26-year-old stadium.
The Tigers home stadium has been named Comerica Park since its opening season in 2000.
Any new name will likely incorporate Fifth Third's branding in some capacity. The Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit's Triple-A affiliate), for example, play at Fifth Third Field, while LMCU Ballpark in Grand Rapids (home of Detroit's Single-A affiliate West Michigan Whitecaps) was named Fifth Third Ballpark from 2000 to 2020.
Fifth Third said during
the merger that any name change to the ballpark would happen after the 2026 regular season concludes.
