Stumblebum Beer Co. is permanently closing its Troy brewery, with regular business hours set to end Sept. 1.
Owner Eli Green announced the closure on social media Aug. 7, saying the challenges facing the business had become too big to overcome.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I must announce our closure,” Green wrote. “While I take great pride in what we were able to build — great beer, great atmosphere, and great connections to our community — the challenges have become insurmountable."
Stumblebum, which opened in June 2024, joins a growing list of breweries closing across Michigan, including Heights Brewing in Farmington, Brewery Faisan in Detroit and others.
“I won’t burden this statement with discussions of the economy or cost of goods,” Green added. “The fact that weighs most heavily on my mind is that businesses and people alike are all facing these challenges.”
The brewery, at 1965 W. Maple Road, will hold all public and private events scheduled for August, Green said, noting customers will have opportunities in September to stop in for a beer and say farewell as the operation winds down.
The kitchen will be closed Aug. 7-9, although customers may bring their own food, a separate post said. Future kitchen hours will be announced later.
Green said he founded Stumblebum to be more than a brewery and make a positive impact on the community.
“I will close this chapter the same way I opened it, with the earnest belief that it is the people who matter,” Green wrote. “Our wonderful staff, our loyal customers, and those we’ve been able to help in hard times.”
