It's time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Girls Athlete of the Week.
This week's poll features four players – two apiece from volleyball and cross country – who had standout performances during the week of Sept. 7-13.
Voting will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Elise Biermann, Utica Eisenhower, volleyball
Eisenhower picked up six wins last week, including victories over Macomb L'Anse Creuse North, South Lyon and Macomb Dakota. Biermann, a senior outside hitter, led the way, totaling 84 kills, 35 digs and five aces across those matches.
Alexandra Green, Birmingham Seaholm, cross country
The junior runner won the Division 1 Spartan Invitational at Michigan State University on Sept. 11. She completed the 5K race in 19 minutes, 11 seconds.
Gabriella Mercier, Macomb Dakota, cross country
Mercier won two 5K races just
four days apart. On Sept. 8, the junior set a personal-best time of 18:24.7 to win the MAC Red Jamboree, finishing four seconds ahead of Romeo's Alannah Wessel. She followed that performance by claiming the Averill Invitational title on Sept. 12 with a time of 19:19.98.
Lily Verbeke, Macomb Lutheran North, volleyball
Macomb Lutheran extended its winning streak to six matches with victories over North Branch, Anchor Bay and Fraser. Verbeke fueled the run, finishing the week with 44 digs, 40 kills, 37 serve receptions and seven aces.
