A 23-year-old Highland Township man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after murdering his fiancee, the mother of his child.
Michael Devon Webb was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Oct. 7 by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren.
In July, a jury found Webb guilty of first-degree murder and felony firearm charges in the April 2025 death of Rachel Renee Wooten, 23.
Following the jury's verdict, Prosecutor Karen McDonald said, "Michael Webb executed Rachel Wooten in front of their child, then called 911 and lied about it... While this verdict holds him accountable, nothing can bring back Rachel Wooten or change the fact that her child will grow up without a mother. Too many women and children are living
in fear of domestic violence without the resources or support to escape. We must do more to protect women and prevent future tragedies like Rachel's murder."
Defense attorney Stephanie Achenbach could not be immediately reached for comment.
Police and prosecutors say that Webb killed Wooten by shooting her in the neck at close range at their home in the 200 block of Maple on April 15, 2025. Their 6-month-old child was physically unharmed.
Webb called 911 around 4 p.m. that day and said he had shot his fiancée and himself. Oakland County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the home to find Wooten dead from a single gunshot wound and Webb with a wound that appeared to be from the same bullet. He claimed it was an accident. Police and prosecutors proved otherwise.
