Love was in the air − and on air − Tuesday morning, July 29, on WXYZ-TV (Channel 7).
Reporter Ali Hoxie ended her shift sharing the news of a proposal from her now-fiancé, Jeff Adkins, who surprised her on air.
The two met while Hoxie was covering a story in 2018.
WXYZ confirmed the proposal on Instagramafter its 6 a.m. morning show on Tuesday, July 28.
"They surprised me good this morning," Hoxie said in a Tuesday statement posted to Facebook. "Thank you so much to the amazing crew."
Hoxie, who is from Grand Rapids in west Michigan, started her career in WLIO in Ohio after receiving her broadcast journalism degree from Columbia College Chicago.
Hoxie started freelancing for WXYZ Detroit in the
summer of 2018 and transferred to a full-time reporter position in the fall.
She moved to the traffic anchor role in 2020, according to the WXYZ staff page.
Hoxie in the news segment said she is going to take some time off to enjoy her wedding. It is not yet clear how long she will be off-air.
