An Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in New Baltimore prompted police to alert the area's school district on Thursday, Sept. 10, authorities said.
The New Baltimore Police Department said it notified Anchor Bay School District officials after learning an operation was taking place within a quarter-mile of school buildings.
"There is no active threat to anybody or property," police said in a social media post.
According to authorities, the district was alerted "out of an abundance of caution" because they believed people sought for immigration law violations could potentially flee the area on foot during the operation.

to help ensure the safety of students and staff during the operation.
"We applaud the Anchor Bay School District for taking steps to ensure all students and staff remain safe," according to New Baltimore police.
Neither police nor school officials released additional details about the federal enforcement action.
The Detroit Free Press was unable to reach the ICE Detroit Field Office or Anchor Bay School District for comment Thursday afternoon.
Authorities later said the investigation in New Baltimore had concluded and was handed over to ICE.
