Federal agencies executed search warrants at Muskegon Heights City Hall this past week and now officials have suspended City Manager and Fire Chief Shawnderrick Roberson.
Roberson was placed on leave, without pay, on Thursday, July 23, pending the outcome of an ongoing law enforcement investigation and administrative review, Muskegon Heights City Attorney Te Smith said via email.
"This action is administrative in nature and should not be construed as a determination of wrongdoing," Smith said.
Police Chief Maurice Sain has been designated to serve as the city's acting city manager, while oversight of the Muskegon Heights Fire Department will be under the leadership of the Deputy Fire Chief Fonte Love.
Federal law enforcement agencies, including
the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service, among others, executed search warrants in Muskegon County on Thursday, July 23, as part of an active financial and drug investigation, the Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson announced on Facebook this past week.
"This is an active financial and drug crime investigation, therefore our ethical duties, as well as protecting the integrity of this investigation, limit our ability at this time to disclose specific details," Hilson said.
