A mom is in critical condition and her 10-year-old son and two male relatives are injured after being shot at a home on Detroit's east side on Friday, Aug. 22, according to police.
Just before 6 p.m., an unknown vehicle pulled up to the home in the 3700 block of Haverhill Street and shots were fired, Detroit Police Department Assistant Chief Kari Sloan said at a news conference streamed by local TV stations Friday evening. Sloan said some people live at the home, but wasn't sure as of Friday evening which of the victims, if any, live there.
A weapon was recovered on the scene, Sloan said. Police have no vehicle description for the suspect as of Saturday morning, Public Information Manager Jackson Vidaurri told the Free Press.
The victims are a 40-year-old
woman, a man around 40, a man in his 20s and a 10-year-old child, Sloan said. In a statement Friday evening, Sheffield said the 10-year-old boy "by the grace of God was not seriously injured."
"Our thoughts are with her and her family at this difficult time as we pray for her recovery," Sheffield said. "This senseless and indiscriminate violence should never reach a young child and will not be tolerated. DPD will find those responsible for this heinous crime and we will ensure justice is served."
