An Oakland County man's research would have advised him against purchasing a Michigan Lottery ticket that ended up winning him $1 million.
The 62-year-old man often checks the instant game prizes remaining page on the Michigan Lottery website to help decide which tickets to buy based on the top prizes remaining, according to the Michigan Lottery.
Recently, he decided to buy a Lady Luck 777 ticket even though only one top prize remained.
At the store, he noticed 007 was the next ticket number on the roll for four different games. He took it as a lucky sign and bought all four.
"I scratched the tickets when I got in my car and was shocked when I saw I'd won $1 million on the Lady Luck 777 game," he told the Michigan Lottery. "I went back into the store,
held the ticket up to the clerk and said, 'You sold me a big winner!' It was amazing."
He purchased the ticket at Kakoz 2 LLC located at 36950 Dequindre Road in Sterling Heights.
He recently claimed his prize and opted to receive a one-time lump-sum payment of about $693,000 instead of annuity payments for the full amount.
He plans to save the money.
The Lady Luck 777 game costs $10 to play. The game has three top prizes worth $1 million. All have been claimed.
