A Whole Foods Market store is planned for the former Gander Mountain location at the Hall Road Crossing shopping center in Shelby Township.
Along the busy Hall Road corridor, this marks the first Whole Foods Market in Macomb County.
Carrie Rodgers Hunte, Amazon Grocery and Whole Foods spokesperson, confirmed to the Free Press in an email that the location “would become a Whole Foods Market store” but provided no additional details.

Nick Fiore, the township's planning department manager, said sign variances were granted by the township's zoning board of appeals in May for the location for additional wall signs for extra exposure on Hall Road for the proposed Whole Foods Market.
The location has 39,475 total square feet with a mezzanine, according
toonline property records.
At one point, the Shelby Township location at 13975 Hall Road, just east of Schoenherr Road, was initially discussed to become an Amazon Fresh store, as others planned around metro Detroit.
Other Amazon Fresh stores thought to be in the works included those in Dearborn, Roseville, St. Clair Shores, Madison Heights, Rochester Hills, Plymouth Township and Livonia, according to a Free Press investigation. Those stores, many expected to fill vacant storefronts, never came to be. Although some locations were built with Amazon Fresh facades, but the interiors were empty and unfinished, the Free Press reported.
In late January 2026, Amazon announced that the e-commerce giant would close its Amazon Go markets and Amazon Fresh stores brands to focus on growth areas.
Some of those stores will convert to Whole Foods Market stores, while others will close. Amazon said at the time it was evaluating stores on a case-by-case basis.
Whole Foods Market, based in Austin, was founded in 1980 and has 540 stores across the United States. It is the world's leading natural and organic foods retailer and the first certified organic national grocer in the United States, according to its website.
