Earlier this year, Mercedes-Maybach created a special S680 just for NBA legend LeBron James. A second Maybach S680 is nearly identical to the first one and shares the same LeBron James logos that can be found all around the vehicle. The car will be sold at auction by Gooding Christie’s at Retromobile New York, which will be held Nov. 19-22. Proceeds will go to the LeBron James Family Foundation to support the I PROMISE program, which helps public schoolchildren in James' hometown of Akron, Ohio.
What is a Maybach S680?
Mercedes-Maybach is the most luxurious division at Mercedes. While the run-of-the-mill Benz or AMG may be very nice with a powerful engine, Maybach sits at a level even higher. They prioritize rear passenger comfort with reclining seats and pillows to
keep riders comfortable if they are being chauffeured. What makes the S680 stand out the most is it's the only Mercedes vehicle that still uses a V12 engine. While most Mercedes cars are meant to be driven, Maybach's are meant to be driven in, but can still be a great option if you choose to drive yourself.
What makes the LeBron James edition special?
The car features a MANUFAKTUR-exclusive light Ivory paint job, a blue Nappa leather interior with porcelain stitching. Instead of the original double M Maybach logo, most of them are replaced with LeBron's personal logo and can be found all around the vehicle. This car is 1 of 2 and the only other owner of this car is known by many basketball fans as the GOAT. That's LeBron himself.
How much will the car sell for?
The starting MSRP for a Mercedes-Maybach S680 before options is $247,450. After options it can easily reach more than $300,000. Considering the LeBron James edition is the only one that will ever be on sale and there is only two ever built, the price could reach more than $400,000.
