A second debate between Democratic nominee and former Wayne County and Detroit health director Abdul El-Sayed and Republican former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers in the race for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat is set for Oct. 21.
Rogers' campaign announced on Wednesday, Sept. 2, that he would participate in a televised debate to be hosted by WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) on Oct. 21 in Detroit. El-Sayed's campaign confirmed for the Free Press that he would participate, as well.
No other details were immediately released about the time or format of the debate. The two campaigns had already announced they would both participate in a debate on WOOD-TV 8 in Grand Rapids, hosted by Rick Albin on Oct. 8.
An even earlier debate on Sept. 15 to be hosted by Fox 2 has been
proposed. El-Sayed has committed to that but Rogers has not.
El-Sayed, a progressive Democrat from Ann Arbor, and Rogers, a conservative former congressman who has President Donald Trump's endorsement, are running to replace Democratic U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, who is retiring. The election is Nov. 3.
