A Tuscola County man recently won a $1 million Lotto 47 jackpot after purchasing a ticket from a store he normally doesn't visit.
The 59-year-old man bought the ticket at Richville Gas, 9410 W. Saginaw Road in Reese. The ticket matched the numbers drawn Aug. 19 – 4, 6, 7, 9, 26 and 42 – according to the Michigan Lottery. Reese is located about 13 miles east of Saginaw.
He told the Michigan Lottery he usually plays the game once a month and was watching TV the night of the drawing when his wife told him someone won the lottery with a ticket from the gas station.
"When she said the prize was won on Lotto 47, I pointed to the ticket on the fridge and had her read off my numbers once I pulled up the results online," he said.
“I checked the numbers off
on the screen one by one with my finger and after the last one we knew we’d won the $1 million prize! I was able to stay fairly calm, but my wife started screaming and jumping up and down.
He recently claimed his prize and chose to receive a one-time lump-sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount.
He plans to use the money to pay off his mortgage, take a trip and save the rest.
"Thanks to this big win, we have peace of mind and extra financial security for retirement," he said.
