Luke Altmyer to Tom Kennedy will be a thing again.
The Detroit Lions signed Altmyer, Kennedy and 12 other players to their practice squad Monday, Aug. 31, one day after they failed to make their initial 53-man roster.
Altmyer, an undrafted free agent out of Illinois, spent most of camp working as the No. 2 quarterback behind Jared Goff, but was beat out for the backup job by veteran Josh Dobbs. Kennedy was one of several players vying for the No. 5 receiver job, but the Lions only kept four players at the position.
Kennedy has spent part of every season since 2019 on the Lions' practice squad. He could handle kick and punt returns when the Lions open the season Sept. 13 against the New
Orleans Saints.
Along with Altmyer and Kennedy, the Lions re-signed receiver Lucky Jackson, cornerback Nick Whiteside and defensive tackle Tyre West to the practice squad. Whiteside saw action in the Lions secondary last season, Jackson had a team-high 109 yards receiving on seven catches in the preseason and West was a seventh-round pick in April's NFL Draft.
