Michigan is safe from an E. coli-linked frozen berries recall affecting nearly 10 states across the southern U.S.
Publix supermarkets have recalled frozen GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and frozen GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, both in 10-ounce and 48-ounce bags, as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigate an E. coli outbreak that may be related to the recalled fruit, according to an FDA recall notice.
The recalled frozen berries were distributed to Publix stores in eight states, and two states have reported E. coli cases potentially linked to the recalled products, per the FDA.

What frozen berries are under recall?
Grocery chain Publix is recalling the following frozen products, it announced July 29, according to the FDA recall notice:
- GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries in 10-ounce bags with the code UPC 41415-06453 and
- GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries in 48-ounce bags with the code UPC 41415-12053
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries in 10-ounce bags with the code UPC 41415-06753
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries in 48-ounce bags with the code UPC 41415-12153
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. originally recalled the a single lot of frozen GreenWise organic blueberries in 10-ounce bags with a printed lot code of 60401 and a best buy date of Feb. 9, 2028, per the FDA's recall notice.
Where were the recalled berries sold?
The recalled frozen berries were sold at stores in the following states:
- Alabama
- Florida
- Georgia
- Kentucky
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Virginia
Why are the frozen berries under recall?
The frozen berries are being recalled while the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigate a potential E. coli infection related to the products, with illnesses reported in Florida and Georgia, per the recall alert.
Federal officials advise consumers not to eat the fruit, instead to throw away the product or return it to the store where it was purchased.
