Attention sandwich lovers. You're in for a big treat. A party celebrating the humble sandwich is coming to Eastern Market on Sept. 6.
For the third year in a row, the Detroit Sandwich Party returns with a sandwich bonanza under one roof.
At the market’s Shed 5 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., the Detroit Sandwich Day Party brings together sandwich enthusiasts with a wide variety of smaller-format sandwiches from area restaurants and sandwich shops. Sandwich partygoers can expect sweet and savory sandwich offerings from nearly 50 sandwich vendors.
Sandwich guru Carlos Parisi, along with others in the restaurant and food industries, organizes this one-day summer party honoring sandwiches. Parisi is a well-known
metro Detroit food enthusiast.
“I'm really excited about it because the first one proved that it’s a thing and the second year proved that maybe it’s a bigger thing than we initially thought,” Parisi said. “This we’re hoping for it to be solidified as being a true part of our city’s tradition.”
Parisi is the owner and founder of Aunt Nee’s, whose products include Detroit-made tortilla chips, salsa, and guacamole, sold at Eastern Market and several metro Detroit stores.
While the Detroit Sandwich Party is free to attend, the small-format sandwiches are available for purchase at various prices.
Since Parisi started the Detroit Sandwich Party in 2024, the event has grown. Its inaugural event drew more than 2,000 people, Parisi told the Free Press last year. This year’s party, he said, is double its footprint and extends outside of Shed 5 and into the parking lot.
There also will be beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks for sale.
The one-day event is an offshoot of Detroit Sandwich Week, founded by Parisi. Detroit Sandwich Week is a five-day event with a mission to support local businesses during the period between Christmas and New Year’s.
The event, according to its Instagram page, is also in partnership with the North Corktown Neighborhood Association and Eastern Market Corp. You can follow Detroit Sandwich Party on Instagram and Facebook for more information.
