Surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes and thousands of inland lakes and waterways, Michigan has no shortage of waterfront homes, from modest cottages to sprawling estates.
On Saturday, Oct. 17, 13 waterfront properties in Harrison Township will open to visitors for the Fall Waterfront Home Tour, featuring homes along canals, the Clinton River and Lake St. Clair.
The homes range from fixer-uppers to a property listed for $2.29 million, offering a look at different types of waterfront living in Harrison Township, the Macomb County community known as “Boat Town U.S.A.”
Francesca Krause of ReMax Advisors, who organized the event, said the idea came after a slower-than-expected summer housing market. She wanted to bring more prospective buyers
through the doors while showcasing the variety of waterfront properties available.
“I just think that we need to get back to getting people through the door,” she said.
The tour includes properties represented by several real estate companies, with homes selected for their different price points, locations and features.
Among the participating properties is a three-story waterfront home at 32824 North River Road associated with musician Uncle Kracker. The home has an elevator serving all three floors, 120 feet of waterfront and quick boating access to Lake St. Clair.
Other properties include a waterfront ranch condominium with two boat wells, a home with a four-season sunroom overlooking a marsh and a renovated property on roughly half an acre with 106 feet of river frontage. Several homes also offer docks, boat hoists or canal access to Lake St. Clair.
Krause said she hopes visitors come away with a better understanding of the differences between living along a canal, river or lake.
“I hope that they realize that there is something for everyone,” she said.
The tour is free, with no registration required. Visitors can see the homes in any order from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A drawing for Detroit Lions tickets will also be held, with visitors receiving an entry for each home they visit by scanning a QR code.
