The two candidates for Michigan's hotly contested open U.S. Senate seat will be asked questions individually today, Oct. 20, as part of a forumheld by the Detroit Economic Club.
The candidate forum featuring Democratic nominee and former Wayne County and Detroit health director Abdul El-Sayed of Ann Arbor and Republican former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers of White Lake will be held at the Masonic on Temple Street in Detroit beginning at noon.

Jason Colthorp, anchor, reporter and host of Flashpoint on WDIV-TV Local 4 in Detroit will be the moderator. Tickets can be purchased by Detroit Economic Club members and their guests at https://etix.econclub.org/Login.aspx. The event will also be livestreamed by Detroit PBS beginning at noon at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9FJTA4hgdc.
El-Sayed, a progressive Democrat, and Rogers, a staunch conservative who left the U.S. House in 2015, are vying for the seat being vacated by Democratic U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, who is retiring, with Democrats hoping to regain majority control of the Senate from the Republican Party. Current polling averages have El-Sayed slightly ahead in the race.
El-Sayed and Rogers will hold their second debate on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Detroit, hosted and broadcast live by WXZY-TV (Channel 7) beginning at 7 p.m.
