A driver was killed Saturday, Oct. 3, after stopping on the Lodge Freeway late at night to help others involved in an earlier crash, according to Michigan State Police.
A two-car crash left one vehicle blocking two lanes of southbound M-10, near Nine Mile Road, according to state police.
A passing motorist stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway, exited the vehicle and crossed the freeway to attempt to assist those involved in the crash, according to state police. A vehicle traveling on the freeway then swerved to avoid the wreckage but then struck the good Samaritan driver, according to state police.
State police did not release the name of the person who was killed.
State police responded at 11:39 p.m. Southfield police and the Southfield Fire
Department Emergency Medical Services responded, as well, providing lifesaving efforts, including CPR.
The driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.
Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor, based on immediate indications, according to police.
The freeway was closed during the investigation and reopened at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.
Michigan State Police said the incident remains an active investigation and provided no further information.
