A Delta Air Lines flight that took off from Los Angles, en route to Boston, on Tuesday, Aug. 25, had to divert to Detroit Metropolitan Airport after the captain suffered a medical emergency.
A Delta spokesperson said that during the flight to Boston Logan International Airport, a crew member aboard Delta Flight 437 came down with an illness.
"This is the captain. I am the one who is ill. Um, I am going to taxi the jet to the gate and then I need to go to the hospital," the captain can be heard telling the tower on an air traffic recording, CBS News and ATC.com reported.
The alert was made through the standard process to Air Traffic Control via normal communications channels, Delta spokesperson Drake Castañeda said in an email to the Free Press
on Friday, Aug. 28.
The flight landed and shortly after, taxied to the gate.
"The sick crew member disembarked at DTW and the flight was re-crewed before departing again for Boston," according to Castañeda.
