What is the story about?

The Detroit Tigers have parted ways with first base coach Anthony Sanders and assistant pitching coach Juan Nieves, according to a report by The Athletic on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Sanders only spent this past season with the Tigers after previously working six years with the Baltimore Orioles. The Tigers had the second-fewest stolen bases in 2026 with just 58, getting caught stealing 23 times. Only the Houston Astros (50) had fewer steals.

Nieves, previously the pitching coach at Triple-A Toledo, joined the Tigers’ MLB staff in 2021.

The Tigers already had let go of third-base coach Joey Cora during the season. Cora had also been the Tigers’ infield-defense coach for the past two and a half seasons.
