Fresh off a season opening victory, the Detroit Lions organization has turned its attention to an empty downtown office building next to Ford Field.
Demolition has begun on the vacant five-story building at 1900 St. Antoine. The Lions purchased the 108,000-square-foot building last year from Dan Gilbert's Bedrock firm through a limited liability organization, DLI Properties.
The building dates to 2005 and was once home to PricewaterhouseCooper and the engineering firm Sigma Associates. When Bedrock acquired the building in 2016, it was said to be just 11% occupied. Property records show that the February 2025 sale to DLI was for $3.5 million.
A Lions representative couldn't immediately be reached for comment on Monday, Sept. 14, about their plans
for the property. Crain's Detroit reported this summer that the Lions were looking to turn the site into “accessory parking.”
The downtown area off Gratiot has seen a significant amount of demolition in recent months, including the old 13-story Wayne County Division 1 jail that was razed over the summer and the county's former Division 2 jail that came down late last year.
Both of those old jail buildings were owned by Bedrock, which acquired the properties from the county in a complex 2018 deal that involved construction of the new and since-completed Wayne County Criminal Justice Center off Interstate 75 near East Ferry Street.
Adamo Group is the demolition contractor for 1900 St. Antoine.
