A 48-year-old Commerce Township man was critically injured when the bicycle he was riding collided with a motor vehicle at 6:16 a.m on Wednesday, Aug. 5, near the intersection of West Maple Road and Grandview Drive in Commerce Township.
According to a Commerce Township news release, a 65-year-old Walled Lake woman was driving a 2008 GMC Envoy on West Maple Road when it collided with the man, who was riding a Trek bicycle and failed to yield at a crosswalk, investigators determined.
The cyclist was wearing a helmet but was critically injured and taken to the Henry Ford Hospital in Novi. He remains there in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Oakland County detectives
are investigating the crash alongside Commerce Township deputies. They do not suspect substance use or excess speed were factors.
