A fire damaged the Lochmoor Club in Grosse Point Woods on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9, officials said.
Officials were called shortly before 3 p.m. for a fire in the ceiling at the club, said Grosse Pointe Woods Director of Public Safety John Kosanke.

from Fox 2 showed smoke billowing from the building and crews working to control the fire.The club, off of Sunningdale Drive, is near Grosse Pointe North High School. In a post at 3:02 p.m. around the time of school dismissal, the Grosse Pointe Public School System asked families to avoid the area around the club to allow for emergency vehicle access.
The club was founded in 1917 by Edsel Ford, the Dodge brothers, and other business
and civic leaders, according to its website.
The first clubhouse building was completed between 1917 and 1918 out of an old farmhouse expanded with glassed-in terraces, broad verandas and decorated interiors, according to its website. The original was lost to a fire in 1924 and replaced later that year. The current clubhouse opened in 1969.
