A 15-year-old is facing charges including one count of first-degree murder after a fatal shooting at a Detroit liquor store earlier this month.
Isaiah Lamar Gordon, 15, of Detroit, is accused of firing shots from a handgun that left Faith Williams, 65, of Detroit dead and a 29-year-old woman from Detroit injured, according to a news release from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on Saturday, Aug. 29.
The incident happened on Friday, Aug. 21. Police were dispatched to the 15500 block of East Warren Avenue at approximately 11:10 p.m. Officers arriving on scene observed the 29-year-old victim with a gunshot wound outside of the store and Williams inside the store with a gunshot wound to her left arm that traveled to her neck, according to the news
release. Medics pronounced Williams dead on the scene and the 29-year-old was taken to a local hospital.
According to the prosecutor's office, Gordon is also accused of firing a handgun at a vehicle passing the scene with two people inside. Neither were injured.
The defendant and the victims did not know each other, according to the prosecutor's office. Gordon’s brother surrendered him at the Ninth Precinct on Aug. 22, 2026, according to the prosecutor's office.
Gordon is expected to be arraigned on one charge of first-degree murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder and four counts of carrying a felony firearm in 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to the prosecutor's office.
Though Gordon is a minor, he will be charged in adult court.
"His alleged actions against our completely innocent victims were unprovoked and unimaginable. He must be held accountable for his actions in spite of his personal circumstances,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a news release.
In a news conference hosted by the Detroit Police Department on Monday, Aug. 24, William's sister Lucinda Pearson said the injured victim was her niece and that she was still in the hospital as of Monday. Pearson asked for prayers for her niece and for the shooting suspect.
If God can forgive, “who are we not to forgive him?” Pearson said.
At Monday's news conference, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said the suspect, who had not yet been named, was not previously involved in the juvenile justice system.
