Sprouts Farmers Market, a nationwide retailer that sells natural and organic foods as well as groceries and other items, plans to open a store in metro Detroit, marking its entry into the Michigan market.
According to a Facebook and Instagram post by the City of St. Clair Shores, a Sprouts store is coming to its community.
Liz Koto, director of planning, development and grant administration for the city, confirmed to the Free Press that the Sprouts store is on the way.
Sprouts will go into part of a former Kroger location at 22332 Nine Mile Road near Greater Mack. A Planet Fitness is taking up the other part and is currently under renovation. No timeline was given for a Sprouts opening, but renovations are to begin next year.
Known as a specialty
retailer, Sprouts touts that it “helps people live and eat better,” according to its news releases.
“Sprouts provides fresh food at a lower price point than competing grocers (i.e. Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc) while also stocking plenty of non-perishables,” read Facebook and Instagram posts from the city of St. Clair Shores.
Sprouts also has its own brand line of items from grocery to meat and seafood to produce, snacks and other products.

In the U.S., Sprouts has 410 stores across 23 states from California to Florida, according to its website. The Sprouts location list does not currently include any Michigan stores.
Messages sent to Sprouts Farmers Market were not returned.
Headquartered in Phoenix, Sprouts stores feature “an open layout with fresh produce at the heart of the store,” the company website says. “We inspire wellness naturally with a carefully curated assortment of better-for-you products paired with purpose-driven people.”
