Scripps, which has two outlets in Detroit — WMYD-TV and The Spot Detroit 20— will be the local broadcast partner for the Detroit PWHL team
entering its inaugural season. The Spot Detroit 20 is also the broadcast partner of the Detroit Pistons. The partnership, league officials say, expands the PWHL's national reach.
“A season-long national television presence in the U.S. is something we’ve been working toward and represents a significant step in our continued growth as a league,” PWHL Executive Vice President of Business Operations Amy Scheer
said.
Every game will continue to stream live on the PWHL YouTube channel and PWHL.com.
Additionally, the Walter Cup Finals, the league championship, will air exclusively on ION, a subsidiary of Scripps. The platform reaches more than 128 million households nationally.
“Scripps continues to be a committed partner in shining a spotlight on women’s sports, and for the first time, our American fans will have the opportunity to follow the league on national television throughout an entire season, making the PWHL more accessible than ever before,” Scheer said.
The PWHL begins with preseason games Nov. 22-30; each team will play two. Detroit's first game is at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Morgan Firestone Arena in Ancaster, Ottawa, Canada, against the Charge.
The PWHL’s first-ever game on national television showcased the Takeover Tour matchup between the New York Sirens and the Montréal Victoire.
