Did you buy recalled dog food? See Michigan impact

Michigan pet owners, check your dog food before opening a new can this week, as it may be under recall.

Fromm Family Foods, a Wisconsin-based pet food company, recalled over 5,800 cases of two varieties of canned wet dog food sold in North America because the products may contain metal, according to an Aug. 21 recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

If you bought the recalled dog food, return it to the store, the recall notice advises.

Here's what to know about the dog food recall.

What dog food is under recall?

The recall applies to more than 3,800 cases of Fromm's turkey dog food and 1,900 cases of its meatloaf dog food, USA TODAY reported.

and related health risks to dogs, per the recall notice.

Was the recalled dog food sold in Michigan?

Fromm dog food products are sold at pet stores in Michigan, including Pet Supplies Plus, Premier Pet Supply and Family Farm & Home, though the recalled products are not listed on the stores' websites.

The FDA recall notice said the recalled dog food was sold at neighborhood pet stores and online outlets across the U.S. and Canada.

What if I bought the recalled dog food?

If you bought the recalled products, stop feeding them to your dogs and return them to the store of purchase, per the recall notice.

Dog owners whose pets are showing symptoms should contact your veterinarian for care, the recall notice said.
