Stevie Wonder books two Fox shows on ‘Songs in the Key of Life’ tour

Stevie Wonder will return to a beloved Motown venue when he plays Detroit’s Fox Theatre in a two-night concert stand Dec. 8 and 9.

The Fox visit, part of a 16-city transatlantic tour, is an intimate homecoming for the Michigan-born star as he celebrates the 50^th anniversary of “Songs in the Key of Life,” the Grammy-winning 1976 double record widely regarded as Wonder’s magnum opus.

He’ll perform the album in its entirety both nights.

Tickets for the Fox shows will go on sale at 10 a.m. Sept. 15 through Ticketmaster. Other U.S. dates, including New York’s Madison Square Garden and Chicago’s United Center, will go on sale this Thursday (Sept. 10).

Wonder’s tour is set to kick off Oct. 15 in Paris before crisscrossing Europe and wrapping up with six

shows in the U.S., including the Detroit doubleheader at the Fox.

Wonder has a long history at the downtown Detroit theater: As a young Motown artist, he performed frequently at the Fox as part of the label’s Motortown Revues in the 1960s, and he last played the historic venue in 1995.

“Songs in the Key of Life” stands as Wonder’s defining work — a commercial and critical success that yielded hits such as “Sir Duke,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and “I Wish.” A 40^th anniversary tour celebrating the album brought him to the Palace of Auburn Hills and Joe Louis Arena in 2014 and 2015.
