The Detroit Lions will wear their new rivalry uniforms when they host the Minnesota Vikings in early November, and the Vikings will wear their rivalry uniforms when the Lions come to town for a primetime game later in the year.
The Lions unveiled their new uniforms Tuesday, Aug. 25, one of eight new uniforms the NFL released as part of its rivalries program.
The Lions' new white uniform features Honolulu blue and black stripes on the shoulder of the jersey and leg of the pant, black italicized numbers in a blue outline across the chest and back of the jersey and "Detroit" in blue lettering above the number on the front.
Outgoing Lions president Rod Wood said this spring the uniform would
be similar in color scheme to their current uniforms, but with a new twist.
"They’re very cool," Wood said at the time. "Different but within kind of the realm of our current uniform pallet. … I think the fans are going to like it and it’s different but kind of a cool factor."
The NFL released its first rivalry uniforms last year with teams from the AFC East and NFC West wearing the jerseys. This year, teams from the NFC North and the AFC South will wear the uniforms.
The Lions host the Vikings at 1 p.m. on Nov. 1, while the Vikings host the Lions at 8:20 p.m. on Dec. 20.
The Vikings rivalry jersey is purple and ivory with Viking Knot-inspired details.
The Lions jersey has "Defend the den" inscribed on the inside collar.
After teams debut their rivalry uniform, the jerseys remain in their uniform lineup for three years.
The new jerseys go on sale Sept. 1 at nike.com, NFLShop.com and locally.
