President Donald Trump touted his administration's successes while in Milford, Michigan ,this week, but he continues to fare poorly in polling among Americans ahead of the primary election.
Trump appeared at a July 27 political rally in Oakland County's Milford, alongside Republican gubernatorial candidate U.S. Rep. John James, R-Shelby Township, and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers, both of whom he has endorsed.
Meanwhile recent polling shows the president with deeply negative approval ratings, as poor as 62% disapproval for his job performance in a July 25-27 Economist/YouGov poll.
Michigan's primary election, including the governor and U.S. senate races, will be Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Real Clear Politics, which aggregates data from numerous
polls, shows Trump's current average approval rating is 17.3 percentage points below his average disapproval rating — down about 3 percentage points since mid-July.
The Trump polling reflects other data showing mostly dissatisfied Americans. On the direction of the country, the polling average shows 58.6% of Americansbelieve we're on the wrong track.
On a generic congressional ballot, Democrats hold an average 5.2 percentage point lead over the GOP.
